Get Involved: Reach Out to the Media

Americans are coming together for Cover the Uninsured Week 2005. From May1-8, individuals and organizations from every sector of society will join together to tell our leaders that health coverage for all Americans must be their top priority.

In communities across the country, events will spotlight the fact that too many Americans are living without health care coverage. Local press events will kick off the Week on Monday, May 2.

These press events will announce the community's participation in the Week, highlight local planned activities and call on our nation's leaders to find solutions to the problem. We encourage you and your local coalition to get involved by organizing a press conference or reaching out to the media in another way to demonstrate your community's commitment to the 45 million Americans living without health care coverage.

You can reach out to the media by:

  1. Staging a press conference on Monday, May 2 to kick off Cover the Uninsured Week.
  2. Download the News Conference Planning Guide for tools to help you plan and conduct a press event. (see also, News Conference Planning Timeline)
  3. If you are unable to stage a news conference, issue a press release highlighting your organization's commitment to the Week and the activities you have planned. Press release template
  4. Encouraging local elected leaders to sign a proclamation declaring May 1-8 Cover the Uninsured Week and release the proclamation to the media. Download the proclamation template
  5. Writing an op-ed or letter to the editor about the issue of the uninsured. Guide to Editorial Placement
  6. Putting a human face on the issue by sharing specific stories about the uninsured with the local media.
